John Cleese, Who?

November 26, 2008 by nomadicasian

I really don’t know who John Cleese is, but one thing for sure is that he is an Englishman, a humorist and satirist to name a few. Curiously, I got interested on John Cleese partly because of his old political belief concerning the United States of America and the once mighty conqueror of the world, Great Britain.

In his own words, John Cleese dismissed the American people for failing to nominate competent candidates in the just concluded US Presidential Election. And because of this failure he wrote that ’we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective immediately. Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths, and territories (except Kansas, which she does not fancy).Your new prime minister, Gordon Brown, will appoint a governor for America without the need for further elections. Congress and the Senate will be disbanded.’

The message is clear. John Cleese, the Englishman, is trying to make a statement that the American politics had considerably changed since the Brits ruled America centuries ago. Obviously, Mr. Cleese was influenced by the great history of his motherland and that of the United Stated of America. He still holds grudge the way Americans kicked the British out of America. Are they not brothers in blood?

First Family under Fire from Former Close Ally

November 26, 2008 by nomadicasian

The first family headed by President Gloria Arroyo is under fire as former House Speaker Jose De Venecia accused the first couple of abuse of power. Congressman JDV, the one time staunch ally and errand-boy of the president and the administration, turned enemy of the first family.

The word-war started when JDV finally talked about his first-hand information regarding the shenanigans in government. It involves the ZTE-NBN Broad Band deal with the Chinese, the 500k bribery distributed to all pro-administration congressmen to kill the impeachment complaint in 2007, human rights violations, abuse of executive, legislative and judiciary powers and many more irregularities that the administration committed since it took power under questionable circumstances. But despite of the overwhelming evidence, the first family denied the accusations and called JDV as liar.

I Promise Not To Cry

November 24, 2008 by nomadicasian

reynalyn-chicoThe day I saw you I was charmed by your beauty

Never in my life to see a woman like you

It brings happiness every time I look at you

As the day passes-by I think about you

I want to approach you but timid is in me

I feel helpless to get you near me

Because approaching you intimidates me

How I wish to speak to you but hold-back the moment I see you

I envy the men always near and giggling with you

I know you are free and happy chatting with them

Your laugh is engaging as it seem

Enough! I told to myself, casting-off my timid self

I decide to mix gently with you and welcome me interestedly

I start sending messages to you, and you reply selflessly

We exchange messages the way friends should be

Until the time comes telling you how much I LOVE YOU

At first you seem okay reading my sweet-words

Giving me chances of getting-in to your world

But as the day goes-by your answer remains to be seen

Hoping that your heart will just be prim

Hoping against hope, my heart is waiting

And whatever happen I promise not to cry

Steps to Avoid in Courting a Woman’s Nod

November 23, 2008 by nomadicasian

Basically, people still believe the intrinsic form of courtship which in most cases remains as a way of getting into a relationship. And that is a fact. But in today’s modern world, changes had been a factor that influences the very form of courtship. And that is a fact also.

Courtship, in layman’s term and in my own understanding, is the expression of one’s feeling to a woman whom a man cares and loves. And that’s the most exciting part of it. However, because of modern culture that we have now, courtship in the truest sense has become more complicated than the previous times.

The following are some of the explanations based on personal experience taken from my old and recent encounter of courting a woman’s nod. I was actually rejected 3x.

THE DON’TS: 1.Do not expresses sincerity and truthfulness 2. Do not brag your clean living lifestyle 3. Do not say flattering remarks (ex. You are beautiful, simple, brave etc.) 4. Do not say the “I Love You” often because women of today are prone to “sweet-message” fatigue. 5. Do not impress her of your swear words, because, again women are easily annoyed by that kind of courtship tactics. 6. And last but not the least; do not fool your self that you will win her love hands down.

THE DOS: 1. Pretend to be somebody 2. Be gorgeous looking yet animalistic inside 3. Be superficially simple but rough inside 4. Be a talker and giddy to impress the girl 5. Speak like a rocker without seriousness 6. Be a lover boy because it’s the in thing. Women look for sexually active partners 7. Be armed with gadgets to take videos of your sexual tryst. 8. Be a cigar-puffing fellow to show your macho-like personality. 9. And last but not the least just plays the girl’s game and you will win her love.

The dos are based on actual interviews shared by indefatigable individuals I’ve met in gatherings and in trainings only recently.

Cancelation of Michael Learns To Rock Concert, Disappoints Fans

November 23, 2008 by nomadicasian

mltrBaguio City – The concert could have been held last November 21, 2008 and may be it could be the first for the city to host international artists at that level. But unfortunately and all of a sudden, the organizers made a press statement saying that the concert had been canceled.

The concert was already a done deal. Tickets had been sold-out and fans from the city and nearby provinces bought their tickets weeks earlier. The disappointed fans and Michael Learns to Rock fanatics were disappointed upon hearing the news.

It was said that the organizers and the foreign artists have had disagreement on the talent fee, which is the reason why the concert did not push through. Meanwhile, the organizers filed a formal complaint against Michael Learns to Rock for breach of contract in a lower court.

Charter Change Begins to Roll

November 22, 2008 by nomadicasian

Congressmen allied with President Gloria Arroyo had started to roll their sullied agenda to amend the country’s constitution by means of charter change or cha-cha. The congressmen, all loyal supporters of the administration, had been busy looking for ways to finally amend some of the provisions of the 1987 constitution which, according to them impede the country’s development.

Critics, however, immediately hit the initiatives of the power-sated yet hungry congressmen saying that it is a ploy to extend the term of the President and all of her allies enjoying good life as corrupt leaders of the suffering Filipino nation.

There are many pressing issues to confront but apparently the administration and its lackeys keep themselves preoccupied on how to prolong their stay in power. There seems to be a conspicuous plan by the administration not to relinquish power in 2010. The President’s Press Secretary even asked God to give PGMA forbearance and tolerance to lead the Philippines perhaps even beyond 2010.

The President’s congressman-son is leading the way in winning the hearts and minds of his colleagues to support charter change to lift term limits of all elected officials. The Filipino nation will finally see its demise. God forbid.

Taiwanese Fishing Vessels Exploits Filipino Seamen

November 21, 2008 by nomadicasian

fishingvesselsA Filipino seaman (name withheld for privacy) who worked for a Taiwanese fishing vessel for eight years confided that he suffered under worst condition while he was employed as fisherman. The man who just signed-off last July 2008 was recruited together with other local folks in the rural areas of northern Philippines.

According to the man, most of the recruits did not undergo basic maritime training and have incomplete papers in violation of International Maritime Organization’s laws and regulations. The Taiwanese employers, based on the accounts of the seaman, never required recruits to have a seaman’s book. Salary is below international standard for seafarers and worse, it is being held for about a year upon signing-on.

The poor and untrained recruits and rustic they come from, have nothing to do but accept their fate. They chose not to make any scene because in the first place, they knew nothing about seafaring in general. They‘re happened to be in Taiwanese vessels only because for work and for money which is, unfortunately, not available in their country of origin.

Teenager Killed In Gang-Related Violence

November 20, 2008 by nomadicasian

Baguio City – Gang-related violence is again back in this resort city after a short lull. A teenage boy was mercilessly stabbed to death by rival gang members days ago. The victim, a 15 year old member of a gang called Ragsta, was on his way home when attacked by aggressive and junkie-infected mind youngster. Apparently, the renewed violence was to show that gangs and fraternities are alive and kicking.

The members of gangs and fraternities in the city are mostly young boys and girls. They project an image of being tough, war-freak, junkie and no inhibitions at all. They roam the streets like they own the entire neighborhood. What happened to the 15 year old is only the beginning of yet a bigger problem for the city and the community.

The authorities couldn’t do anything because they consented to the existence of all gangs and fraternities by having dialogues with them. Both local officials and police authorities are consenting adults by way of coming to terms to the whims and capricious of cantankerous gang members.

Expect that the renewed violence will not be the last; it is only the beginning of more gang-related violence because modern culture says so. Ugh…

Seafarers’ Training a Tough Act for Women Trainees

November 19, 2008 by nomadicasian

Seeing women trainees in a male dominated training center for seafarers make oneself think that women are now in equal footing with men. Female crews can be seen in every luxury ships or passenger vessels sailing in the different parts of the world. But before they could have a promising job onboard ships, female crews undergoes the same training that men usually take as seafarers.

Women trainees are required to take Basic Safety Training like; Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, Elementary First Aid and Personal Safety and Social Responsibility. Thus, upon completing the IMO requirement, women trainees are now ready to face the briny world as seafarers.

But behind the excitement and challenges as trainees, women however experience some kind of insult, sexism, stereotype and mischievous conduct from their male counterpart which usually act as a dominant factor in treating women as sex object. In that case, women are forced unnecessarily to play the game of their naughty male counterpart.

This kind of system is downgrading to women. And women should be taught on how to conduct their selves in a male dominated training centers. Seafarers’ training is really a tough act for women trainees looking for a promising job as seafarers.

RP’s Pols Resumes to Play the Game of Dirty Politics

November 18, 2008 by nomadicasian

Political turmoil once again rocked the Philippines after the nation’s senate was hit by leadership changes orchestrated by the administration’s allies in the upper chamber. Senate President Manny Villar was ousted yesterday by no less than 14 of his colleagues headed by one of the staunch supporters of President Gloria Arroyo.

The senate coup was suspected to be the handiwork of the administration to prolong its continued stay in power beyond 2010. The no-el or no election scenario is once again making people nervous especially now that the senate has its new leader in the person of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile, the former martial law henchman of the former dictator Marcos.

The new senate president is a veteran and knows how to play the game of dirty politics. He is one of the grand old man of Philippine politics who help the country remain in the cellar of economic, political and social injustice and degradation.

The Philippines is bracing yet another version of dirty politics with the same players of politicos who are ready to do everything to derail the democratic processes by subverting the constitutional provision of free election. The power-hungry allies of the administration can now move on to their next plan of action to endorse CHA-CHA or charter change so as to perpetuate themselves in power.

And the new senate leadership will play a big role in this new political upheaval. They won’t stop until all their plans realized before the 2010 general elections come.
