Gunpoint Environmentalism

By nomadicasian

I do not understand why other people in this world of ours are skeptical about the issue of global warming or even climate change to that effect. A number of people have reacted about the launching of “Earth Hour” around the world days ago. They said that it was another form of idiocy which unnecessarily caused disruptions to man-hours.

One even commented that global warming or climate change is only a product of the people’s imagination without basis to support that global warming really exists in our midst. Reading such commentary coming from anonymous blogger who responded to one of my blog regarding global warming is somewhat indescribable to say the least.

The person further said that climate change is impossible to happen because according to her/him, North America is set to experience the “new ice age” in the near future. I cannot believe on the argument as stated, but I do believe that there are people who still unconvinced on the growing issue of global warming.

Others who ridicule the launching of Earth Hour accused the environmentalist groups of “Gunpoint Environmentalism.” They dismiss the event as purely non essential and loosely immaterial to warrant global warming awareness. The scornful group who mock global warming believes that they are under “Gunpoint Environmentalism” which affects their understanding of the earth’s environment.

In as much as to understand the pros and cons, global warming has already unfolded its effect in Philippine archipelago and other parts of the world.

As a scientist with years of experience in the renewable energy, I find the issue of global warming shamelessly exaggerated. Of course I applaud efforts to conserve energy and the development of renewables (I’ve been doing it for years), but I grow weary of the unrealistic hyping of global warming to gain political or economic advantage.

Another recent example of this is the cry of disaster concerning the Wilkins ice shelf “collapse.” All in all, a non-event.

There is plenty of evidence that supports the fact that global warming is not man-made. I highly encourage you read up on it. Also, the fact is that, if you try to think of it seriously, Earth Hour was a seriously ridiculous idea that is ultimately a celebration of self-satisfaction at supposedly trying to help the environment.
